Scolding when not needed wont count. Discipline CMs will only count if you took too much to scold your pet if it done something bad. (Yelling, or refusing to eat)
If you want to farm CMs, I'd recommend just leaving your device, then check it when no stats so it won't die. (Just don't get too many CMs as that could insta-wipe your current character)
