That's painful for everyone else outside of Japan, not just the US.

It shouldnt really affect your gameplay much but youd have to search a bit harder for certain genes since you can't marry a tama that has the traits you liked but wasn't the opposite gender. Boys and girls can inherit any characteristic of any parent, regardless of their gender in this game. Your little dude can look feminine and marry a female, giving the illusion of them actually being same sex.
