The Choppertchi (チョッパーっち) is a licensed Tamagotchi Nano based on the character Tony Tony Chopper from the anime and manga series One Piece by Eiichiro Oda.
Design Vote[]
Along with the official announcement, Bandai revealed five shell designs along with a design voting contest, running from June 13th through September 30th. At the end of the voting period, the two shells with the most votes will be produced. The five shell designs are the following:
- A design based on Chopper's pre-timeskip appearance
- A design based on Chopper's post-timeskip appearance
- A design based on the Going Merry
- A design based on the Thousand Sunny
- A design based on the Straw Hat Pirates' flag
On October 2nd, the two winning shells were announced: the New World Chopper and Going Merry designs.
Background[]
One Piece is a manga and anime series that began in 1997. The story follows a boy named Monkey D. Luffy as he travels the Grand Line with his pirate crew, The Straw Hats, in search of the late Gol D. Roger's treasure, the titular One Piece, so that he may become the next King of Pirates. Included in the crew is Tony Tony Chopper, a blue-nosed reindeer who has the power to change into different forms from eating a Zoan-type Human-Human Fruit and the Rumble Ball. The Choppertchi focuses on Chopper and his many different forms as evolutions.
Features[]
The user is tasked with caring for Chopper, including feeding and playing games (Scope and Cotton Candy Catch) to keep him happy and healthy. Depending on his quality of care and what games he plays, Chopper will evolve into several different forms as seen in the series. The user can start out with his pre-time skip or post-timeskip form which affects the forms he can evolve into it. Throughout the day, short animations featuring scenes from the anime will occur.
Birth and Growth[]
After setting the clock, a cutscene will play of Hiriluk's farewell to Chopper. After 24 hours, he will change into a new form based on care quality, what games were played, and how many perfect results were gained. Some forms can further change into a special one if the right conditions are met.
Buttons[]
There are no on-screen icons, and therefore all information is conveyed through the screen and buttons. Chopper is cared for by filling his meters; he has Hungry and Happy meters, each consisting of four units, which are both empty when he is born. If either becomes empty, Chopper will call for attention to fill them.
If Chopper needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what he needs. If Chopper looks dizzy, he's hungry; if Chopper cries, he's unhappy. If his Hungry and Happy meters are not empty but the Happy meter is not full, Chopper will do a simple happy animation. If the Happy meter is completely full and the Hungry meter is not empty, Chopper will perform a Close Up instead.
Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the options to feed food or to play a minigame. The meal option (meat) fills one Hungry unit, and Chopper will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The snack (cotton candy) fills one Happy unit, and can be fed even when the Happy meter is full. The A button is also used to open the lights on and off menu when Chopper has fallen asleep.
Minigames[]
There are two games available, each influencing what form Chopper will change into. Winning a game will raise the Happy meter by 1, while playing a perfect game will raise the Happy meter by 2.
- Scope: Chopper will be in his brain point form and scanning his opponents to find their weak spot. When Chopper's hooves are in the center of the scope, the user must press the A or B button. Finding a weak point 5 times is a perfect game.
- Cotton Candy Catch: Chopper must catch candy falling down from the top of the screen. The user can press the A and B buttons to move him left or right. Catching 20 cotton candies is a perfect game.
Hiding[]
Throughout the day at regular intervals, Chopper will hide behind a tree. The user must press the A button to send him love so he is encouraged to stop hiding. Chopper will gradually hide more of himself behind the tree the longer the user takes to respond and failing to respond entirely will make him upset. Chopper can't be encouraged to come out from hiding if he is asleep or depressed.
Daily Events[]
Throughout the day, various characters from the series will appear. Pressing any button will trigger the animation to end, with some showing an additional screen before closing.
Departure[]
If the user fails to fill the hungry and happiness meters or fails to coax Chopper out of hiding, Chopper will become depressed, portrayed by him sulking. Press the A button multiples times will cheer him up. Repeated instances of Chopper becoming depressed or failure to cheer him up after an extended period of time will result in the Marines coming to arrest him for his bounty.
If the user continues to take good care of Chopper, he will leave on his own after a certain amount of time and a message will appear on screen saying "Thank You" or "Hopeful to See You Again".
In both instances, pressing A and C will replay the cutscene of Hiriluk's farewell to Chopper, restarting the cycle.
