The Debug feature within a Tamagotchi Connection circuit
The Debug program is a part of several Tamagotchi releases. Effects include hyperspeed, in which the in-game clock is accelerated, and a character selection screen.
Enabling Debug Mode[]
Debugging involves accessing and modifying the circuit board inside the Tamagotchi by removing the back shell. The method of debugging varies between versions. Note that opening the Tamagotchi carries the risk of permanent damage if mishandled, such as broken wires.
Tamagotchi Osutchi and Mesutchi[]
Osutchi & Mesutchi can be debugged by attaching a magnetic reed switch to the circuit board. The only known debug effect is hyperspeed, where time passes at 60x the normal speed. Debug mode can be turned on and off by moving a magnet near the reed.[1]
Tamagotchi Connection Versions 1, 2, 3 and 4[]
On the back of the circuit board, near the battery, are two foil semicircle-shaped solder jumpers with DEBUG written above. Using a pencil, owners draw a line of graphite between the two half circles to connect them. Alternatively, one can use solder, although handling solder is considerably more complex and riskier. These solder jumpers are not present in the European Connexion releases, therefore this method will not work on them. The Connexion releases have been documented to have debug functions via solder jumpers located on the screen side of the circuit board, including a care mistake counter.[2]
Tamagotchi Connection Version 5[]
The debug function is placed on the front of the circuit near the screen and requires solder and a wire. Two square shaped solder jumpers labelled R11 must be soldered together along with a wire. The wire must also be soldered to a small circle with DEBUG written above.[3]
Tamagotchi Nano[]
For the licensed Tamagotchi Nano releases, connecting a solder jumper labelled JP1 on the back of the circuit board will activate debug mode. This method of debugging is currently only confirmed to work on the R2-D2 and Kingdom Hearts releases.[4] The functions consist of a character select screen accessible whenever the device is reset, and an event viewer accessed from the clock screen by pressing the A button to select a number. In the Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi, the events and their numbers include:
- 00: Spawns an enemy
- 11: Good ending or evolution
- 12: Character leaves from neglect
A debug mode in the Grogu Tamagotchi has been accessed by repeatedly inserting the batteries back and forth. It has the same character select and event viewer as the other known Nano debug modes. Events and their numbers include:
- 01: Spawns a Dark Trooper
- 09: Farewell to Grogu
Tamagotchi Nano Colorful[]
Connecting a solder jumper labelled JP1 on the back of the circuit board will activate debug mode. Features include character select and hyperspeed. This method is only confirmed to work on the Detective Conan release.[5]
Exiting Debug Mode[]
Debug mode can be exited by reversing the process used to activate it. If pencil was used to connect solder jumpers, it can be erased with the end of a flathead screwdriver or with the edge of paper/card.
Effects[]
Hyperspeed[]
Hyperspeed, as named by fans, is a feature of debug mode in which the Tamagotchi operates at accelerated speed. It starts as soon as the debug program begins. For every real-life second that passes, 15 clock minutes pass by, while the idle animation is at 2x speed.
Hyperspeed can be activated and deactivated by pressing the C button. On the v3, it can also be disrupted by various actions such as activating the menu, activating the clock, the appearance of poop, or other calls for attention.
However, on some Tamagotchi releases, pressing C triggers a C-Click Reaction, meaning it cannot be activated. In some cases, it may deactivate automatically.
Character Selection[]
If the owner hatches a new Tamagotchi after enabling debug mode, they can choose an arbitrary character to raise. As soon as the baby appears, the owner can press A to view the list of characters, which can include characters that cannot be achieved via normal gameplay.
Debug-Exclusive Characters[]
The following characters can be obtained exclusively through debugging except where noted.

Known Issues Among Releases[]
Some Tamagotchi releases, though possible to be debugged, have negative side effects when debugged. The Tamagotchi Connection Version 3 and Tamagotchi Connection Version 4, for example, lose PC access (not the V4.5), though it's unknown if the same can be said for the internet-based Japanese releases, Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus and Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus. The Tamagotchi Connection Version 4 and V4.5 also cannot turn off Hyperspeed. The Tamagotchi Connection Version 3 loses the ability to input passwords (numbers cannot be selected); exiting certain screens such as Shop and Password also seems to trigger hyperspeed (unlike other screens); and A and C cannot be simultaneously pressed for the Flag game (using A and C to toggle sound still works).
