Egg family

Eggification (タマゴ化 Tamago-ka) is the name of the curse or disease-like phenomena that plagues Tamagotchi Planet near the end of the original Tamagotchi! anime. The curse involves Tamagotchis turning into living eggs and losing all their personality, becoming a literal shell of their former selves.

Gathering the Tama Hearts can evolve Kizunatchi and cure the eggification curse.

Hatokamitchi alludes to the curse in "Full of Mystery!? Ha Island and Hatokamitchi" and "The Mysterious Beginning of the Vanishing Tama-Hearts", but ends up eating TamaDepa donuts instead of elaborating. The curse first appears in North North Point and eventually spreads to Tamagotchi Town. When the Tama-friends try to collect a Tama Heart from Pichipitchi, it disappears quickly due to the curse causing Tama Hearts to disappear. At the onset of the curse, Tamagotchis are not worried as eggified Tamagotchis are still acting normal and don't appear to be negatively affected asides from their different appearance.

The negative effects of the curse become more apparent in "Fashion! The Best? Eggs of Style". The eggified Tamagotchis lose their physical features, speak in a monotone voice, and are more apathetic. The scientists at Mamemame Laboratory begin working hard to find a cure and release a statement that eggified Tamagotchis aren't in danger despite their appearance and behavior change. Moriritchi becomes upset when eggified Tamagotchis reject her Tamamori and choose to wear a simple red bandana instead. Lovelin and Melodytchi also notice empty seats at their concert and worry that the eggified Tamagotchis don't like their music.

In "Shock! The Eggification Doesn't Stop", Kizunatchi becomes weak from the curse making Tama Hearts disappear from the world. The Tama-friends find a mysterious plate in Mamemame Lab which energizes Kizunatchi and makes her realize that their Tama Hearts can fight back against the curse. When the Tama-friends return home that night, they are horrified to see all their families turned into eggs.

Mametchi tells Papamametchi what happened in "Tamagotchi Planet's Pinch! Can Kizunatchi Save It!?". His father updates him on the situation and explains that the curse has progressed to its final stage where eggified Tamagotchis have turned into white emotionless eggs. He also mentions that Tamagotchi Planet itself has fallen victim to the curse and that they are in danger if it is not cured in time. Going by the eggified Tamagotchis, the planet will also turn into a white egg and shrink to the size of one, crushing all the inhabitants. The Tama-friends hurry to Ha Island where Hatokamitchi begins the ritual to cure the eggification curse. He summons all mysterious plates to the island where they place themselves in pillars.

In "The Power of the Bond" Kizunatchi and the Tama-friends (minus Moriritchi) are the only ones left that are not affected by the curse. She continues the ritual and summons the last plate on the island so it can be finished. However, there's no effect and Tamagotchi Planet starts reaching the end of the curse's third phase. When Kizunatchi becomes overwhelmed with keeping the curse from spreading, the Tama-friend give her their own Tama Hearts which causes her to evolve. With her new form and energy, Kizunatchi sends all the plates into space so they can surround Tamagotchi Planet and break the curse.

Her efforts are successful and all Tamagotchis are returned to normal with no recollection of what had happened. The missing Tama Hearts across the world are also restored, keeping Tamagotchi Planet alive and safe from the curse.

Process[]

First Stage[]

An infected Tamagotchi will at first turn into a colored egg that still carries most of their significant physical features (such as Debatchi's egg having his hair and bucktooth). They don't notice that something is wrong with them and can still function normally, being able to talk and participate in usual activities. They can only move by hopping. The longer the Tamagotchi is in this stage, the more of their personality and individuality they'll lose. This is shown when Makiko no longer keeps up her rivalry with Memetchi and when all eggified Tamagotchis start wearing red bandanas.

Second Stage[]

The eggified Tamagotchi will lose its distinct physical features and instead just be the color that the Tamagotchi once was. By now, almost all personality is completely drained, but they will still perform activities. They can still talk, albeit in a monotone voice, and will be apathetic to everything. This stage is generally short and is almost extant once the epidemic is in full force.

Third Stage[]

When the Eggification is its third and final stage, the Tamagotchi will turn into a plain white egg that cannot be distinguished from any of the others, and will change in size if needed. (For example, Telelin and Pashalin were tiny eggs, but they turned as big as ordinary eggs when they reached stage 3.) They will have no personality or sense of self and will be distanced from reality, not recognizing or caring about any of their friends. They generally don't talk, but when they do it's in a distorted, alien voice. They seem to only move in straight lines outside without purpose.

When Moriritchi first turned into an egg while she was thinking about how her sister and all her friends would all become the same and lose their passions, her vision was blurring and her friends' voices sounded muffled before her vision faded to white. Tamagotchis don't seem to have any recollection of being an egg after they're cured, so it is not likely that the Tamagotchis were still aware once in the final stage.

Trivia[]

  • While the cause of the Curse is unknown, by looking at Moriritchi's case, it is possible that absolute despair can lead to a Tamagotchi becoming fully eggified much faster.
  • It is the one of the two cases in the anime that involves the possible extinction and destruction of the Tamagotchi Planet if it goes serious. The other being Tamagottsun.
  • Noticeably, the title card during the arc turns from blue to red, signifying the seriousness of the curse. This was not shown in all later series.
  • It is unknown if the curse affects Tamagotchis that left or are far away from the planet, such as the Spacy brothers and the residents in Spacy land.
