The Hatsune Mikutchi (初音ミクっち) is a licensed Tamagotchi Nano model based on Hatsune Miku, a Vocaloid software voice bank developed by Crypton Future Media.
Background[]
Vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer software product developed by Crypton Future Media. The software allows users to synthesize "singing" by typing in lyrics and melody, using specially recorded vocals of voice actors or singers. Voice banks are sold and marketed as anthropomorphic characters, known as "Vocaloids".
Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid software voicebank that was first released on August 31, 2007. She quickly became a cultural phenomenon thanks to widespread use of her to sing various songs on the Japanese video platform Nico Nico Douga. Over the years, Miku has been upgraded to a virtual idol, appearing in many marketing cross-promotions, merchandise, and even live virtual concerts.
Features[]
The user is tasked with caring for Hatsune Miku by feeding and playing games to make her happy. Depending on her level of care and what games are played she will evolve into one of her costumes seen in Magical Mirai live concerts. She may also alternatively evolve into other Vocaloid characters if specific conditions are met. Throughout the day, special animations taken from Miku's songs will play.
Birth and Growth[]
After setting the clock, a cutscene will play of the user's computer installing Hatsune Miku. After 24 hours, she will change into a new outfit or character based on care quality, what games were played, and how many perfect results were gained. Some outfits can further change into a special one if the right conditions are met.
Buttons[]
There are no on-screen icons, and therefore all information is conveyed through the screen and buttons. Miku is cared for by filling her meters; she has Hungry and Happy meters, each consisting of four units, which are both empty when she is born. If either becomes empty, Miku will call for attention to fill them.
If Miku needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what she needs. If Miku looks angry, she's hungry; if Miku sulks, she's unhappy. If her Hungry and Happy meters are not empty but the Happy meter is not full, Miku will do a simple happy animation. If the Happy meter is completely full and the Hungry meter is not empty, Miku will perform a Close Up instead.
Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the options to feed food or to play minigames. The meal option (music note) fills one Hungry unit, and Miku will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The other option (light stick) fills one Happy unit, and can be used even when the Happy meter is full. The A button is also used to open the lights on and off menu when Miku has fallen asleep. Miku sleeps from 10 PM to 8 AM and will turn the lights on herself when she wakes up.
Minigames[]
There are three games available, each influencing what Miku will evolve into. Winning a game will raise the Happy meter by 1, while playing a perfect game will raise the Happy meter by 2.
- Vocal Lesson: Mikudaiyo will be practicing singing. When A or B appears on screen, the user must press the corresponding button. If the letters appear twice, the buttons must be pressed twice as well. Five successful presses is a perfect game.
- Musical Note Catch: The user must move the cursor left and right using the A and B buttons to catch music notes falling from the top of the screen. Catching 10 notes is a perfect game.
- Stage Challenge: A person in the audience will be cheering Miku on using their light stick. When the light stick is pointed straight up, the user must press A or B to make it glow. Five successful presses is a perfect game.
- Stage Challenge is only playable during daytime performance time (1 to 3 PM) and nighttime performance time (6 to 9 PM).
Unwritten Music[]
Throughout the day at regular intervals, crumpled pieces of unwritten music will appear on screen. The user must press the A button clear the unwritten music from the screen. More pieces will appear on screen the longer the user takes to respond and failing to respond entirely will make Miku upset. The pieces can't be sent away if Miku is sleeping or depressed.
Daily Events[]
Throughout the day, the user can see an animation of Miku or another vocaloid character. Pressing any button will trigger the animation to end, with some showing an additional screen before closing.
Time | Daily Event |
---|---|
10:00AM | Hachune Miku waving a leek while singing |
12:00 PM | Tako Luka |
2:00 PM | Hachune Miku waving a leek while singing |
4:00PM | Snow Miku with Rabbit Yukine. Closes with snowflake blowing across screen. |
6:00 PM | Tako Luka |
Timid[]
Severely neglecting Miku, or allowing unwritten music to stay on the screen for too long, will cause Miku to become timid, depicted by her with a blanket over her head in bed and four sulking lines on the top right corner of the screen. The A button must be pressed twice to cheer her up. The user cannot feed or play with Miku until the condition is cared for.
Departure[]
Miku will stay as long as the user continues to take good care of her. If the user fails to fill the Hungry and Happy meters or fails to respond to clear unwritten music from the screen, Miku will become depressed, portrayed by her sulking in bed. Pressing the A button multiple times will eventually cheer her up. Repeated instances of Miku becoming depressed or failure to cheer her up after an extended period of time will result in Miku being uninstalled from the user's computer.
Pressing the A and C buttons together will reinstall Miku on the computer, restarting the cycle.
