My Friend (マイ·フレンド Mai Furendo) as called by Melodytchi, or Girl of the Violin (バイオリンの女の子 Baiorin no Onnanoko) as listed in the anime credits, is a female character who lives inside Melodytchi's Melody Violin. She is the soul of the violin as it was previously owned and cherished by Shodai Joou Sama. In the anime, she only appears in episode 119 as a mysterious silhouette, and in episode 120 where she is fully introduced and eventually evolves.

'My Friend' is very timid and secretive at first, and is practically mute until confessing her worries to Melodytchi. However, as she spends more time with Melodytchi, she starts gaining more confidence and imitates the things she does. She shows signs of curiosity and wonder, as she's never been in the world before, but she doesn't need to eat or drink. She didn't want Melodytchi to find her when she ran away, and never tells Melodytchi who she is until she figures it out for herself, impying she is afraid of speaking up about her feelings. Before she evolves, she appears childlike, and is distraught at possibly never being able to grow up alongside Melodytchi. She has a deep bond with Melodytchi as they always create music together.

In the Anime

Episode 119

She left the Melody Violin after thinking that Melodytchi cares more about her Tama-Friends than her, after leaving her on her bed when she goes out to play with her friends. 'My Friend' being absent from the Melody Violin causes it to emit no music when it is played, making Melodytchi really upset.

Not knowing what has happened to her violin, she goes back to Melody Land, Melodytchi's hometown, along with her friends to ask Joou Sama if she knows what's wrong. She suggests that Melodytchi should go to the Melody Forest, and Melodytchi accepts, taking her friends with her.

After playing in the forest they find a small cottage near a lake with a stage. Melodytchi plays her soundless Violin in the stage, but ends up getting interrupted by Kuchipatchi's hungry stomach. After eating with her friends, Melodytchi goes back to the stage and plays her violin alone. She notices a small Tamagotchi watching her in the bright sunlight across the lake. It then runs away from Melodytchi, who runs after it.

Episode 120

Melodytchi catches up to the mysterious character and pulls her out of the sunlight, revealing the character's face for the first time. Melodytchi tells the shy character her name but gets no response. Seeing that it's almost dark, they go into a small cave and sleep there for the night. Still the character doesn't say anything to Melodytchi, but often stares at Melodytchi's Violin. She also sleeps on Melodytchi's lap throughout the night.

The next day, Melodytchi and the girl go out and explore the Melody Forest, trying to find the way back to the cottage. Along the way, Melodytchi hums Happy Heart and the character starts humming along too. This helps Melodytchi realize that it's 'My Friend', her violin.

When they get to the cottage, Melodytchi asks if the girl would like some sweets. The character shakes her head, and Melodytchi understands that she doesn't need to eat. Then Melodytchi goes up to the stage and plays her silent violin. 'My Friend' looks sad and walks away. Melodytchi calls out and reveals that she knows she is 'My Friend'. Melodytchi cries, saying she does not understand what is going on but she loves her violin very much and wants to know how to fix everything. 'My Friend' then runs to Melodytchi, and they both hug while crying. 'My Friend' says that Melodytchi loves her Tama-Friends more than her. She was afraid that she became a nuisance to Melodytchi, because she cannot follow a technique to grow up everyday alongside her--and that Melodytchi kept leaving her behind. Melodytchi then remembers (at the start of episode 119) leaving her violin on her bed to play with her friends. Melodytchi says sorry and explains she leaves her violin behind sometimes because she doesn't want it to get damaged, but it is still close to her heart. 'My Friend' says she is sorry for misunderstanding Melodytchi.

Suddenly, 'My Friend' starts to glow and stands back before evolving, finally getting her wish of growing up. My Friend thanks Melodytchi for everything and disappaears in a flash of light. Melodytchi then notices her violin is now glowing as well, and turns white as its soul has returned. She then smiles and picks up her violin and plays her new song to thank 'My Friend', Smile For Tomorrow.

  • Her adult form also appears in the volume 10 Tamamori refill stickers, Spring Concert set.
  • As the Melody Violin lost its sound after 'My Friend' left, it is implied that the violin's voice might depends on she is present or not.
  • 'My Friend' appears to be based on the Shinto animism belief that everything has a soul. Melodytchi's cherished violin having a soul and gaining a physical form is similar to the themes of Bandai's later franchise, Kamisama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama.
  • In addition to humming Happy Heart perfectly, other clues on who 'My Friend' was were her not drinking water even when imitating Melodytchi, not being hungry after a whole day of not eating, and shaking her head 'no' when Melodytchi asked if her parents would be worried.
  • Despite appearing in two episodes only, she made an appearance in the Tamamori Sticker collection, something that only main characters would appear in.
