Nintendo is a Japanese hardware and software video game company. Headquartered in Kyoto and founded on September 23rd, 1889, the company was initially a hanafuda trading card company, then transitioned into various industries such as merchandise and love hotels before being the pioneer of the video game industry they are today. Some of Nintendo's most well known IPs include Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.
Involvement with Tamagotchi[]
The vast majority of Tamagotchi's console video games have been released exclusively on Nintendo platforms, with the only exceptions being Sega Saturn de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Park, which was released on the Sega Saturn, and Hoshi de Hakken!! Tamagotchi, which was released on the PlayStation from competitor Sony.
- Three games were released for Game Boy; an enhanced port of the classic virtual pet and two Japan-exclusive follow-ups.
- A strategy simulator was released for the Super Famicom (the Japanese name for Super Nintendo Entertainment System), again exclusive to Japan.
- A party game, 64 de Hakken! Tamagotchi Minna de Tamagotchi World, was released for the Nintendo 64, once again exclusive to Japan. Hudson Soft, the game's developer, would subsequently develop the Mario Party series.
- A total of nine games have been released for the Nintendo DS; a trilogy with the Corner Shop sub-title, another Corner Shop game set in Celebria, an RPG-esque game, and four games set during the events of the anime. Only the former three were released outside Japan.
- Two games have been released for the Wii; Tamagotchi: Party On! (released worldwide) and Tamagotchi: Dance Fever! (released only in Japan).
- Six games have been released for the Nintendo 3DS, all Japan-exclusive and a majority released during the anime's runtime; a remake of Corner Shop in the aesthetic of the anime, a game set during the events of Yume Kira Dream, another Corner Shop game set in Dream Town, a game set during the events of Miracle Friends, a mini-game compilation set in various Earth locales, and a Corner Shop continuation (which returns to the franchise's usual aesthetics instead of using the anime's due to being released after the anime's conclusion).
Additionally, there are a few crossovers between Tamagotchi and Nintendo properties:
- 64 de Hakken! Tamagotchi Minna de Tamagotchi World features Mariotchi and Waruotokotchi, Rare Special Tamagotchis based on Mario and Wario from the Super Mario series.
- A special Keitai Kaitsuu Tamagotchi Plus shell was distributed exclusively to Club Nintendo members in 2005.
- Mametchi appears in the arcade-exclusive Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 as a playable driver. A few other Tamagotchi references are also present in the game, such as Bagubagutchi being one of Mametchi's special items.
- Eevee x Tamagotchi is a Tamagotchi Nano variant dedicated to the Pokémon Eevee.
