The Pekoratchi (全人類兎化計画ぺこらっち All Humanity Rabbit Transformation Plan Pekoratchi) is a licensed Tamagotchi Nano model that released in December 2023 in Japan. It is based on the hololive VTuber Usada Pekora. The collaboration was revealed during Pekora's fourth anniversary 24-hour livestream marathon on July 17th, 2023.[1]
Background[]
A VTuber (short for "virtual YouTuber") is an online entertainer who uses a virtual avatar character to represent themself. Starting in late 2016, VTuber personalities were popularized by Kizuna AI, the first VTuber that embodied the traits most commonly associated with the genre since. Due to the explosion in popularity, entertainment management companies were developed to promote and manage popular VTubers.
Usada Pekora is a VTuber that debuted with hololive on July 17, 2019. She is described as "A lonely rabbit-eared girl who loves carrots. She loves them so much that she always brings a few anywhere she goes."
Features[]
Birth and Growth[]
After setting the clock, a cutscene will play where the screen will show the Pekoratchi logo, a Nousagi, and finally Pekora herself. After 24 hours, she will change into a new outfit based on care quality, what games were played, and how many perfect results were gained. Some outfits can further change into a special one if the right conditions are met.
Buttons[]
There are no on-screen icons, and therefore all information is conveyed through the screen and buttons. Pekora is cared for by filling her meters; she has Hungry and Happy meters, each consisting of four units, which are both empty when she is born. If either becomes empty, Pekora will call for attention to fill them.
If Pekora needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what she needs. If Pekora looks angry, she's hungry; if Pekora sulks, she's unhappy. If her Hungry and Happy meters are not empty but the Happy meter is not full, Pekora will do a simple happy animation. If the Happy meter is completely full and the Hungry meter is not empty, Pekora will perform a Close Up instead.
Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the options to feed food or to play minigames. The meal option (almond) fills one Hungry unit, and Pekora will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The other option (milk) fills one Happy unit, and can be used even when the Happy meter is full. The A button is also used to open the lights on and off menu when Pekora has fallen asleep. Pekora sleeps from 10 PM to 8 AM and will turn the lights on herself when she wakes up.
Minigames[]
There are three games available, each influencing what Pekora will evolve into. Winning a game will raise the Happy meter by 1, while playing a perfect game will raise the Happy meter by 2.
- Carrot Dodge: The user must move Pekora left and right with the A and B buttons to dodge carrots falling from the top of the screen. Dodging 15 carrots is a perfect game.
- Carrot Launch: The user has 10 seconds to press the A buttom as much as they can to launch the carrot missile.
- Pekora 777: As a slot machine runs, the user must line up three "7"s by pressing the B button. Getting a line of "7"s five times in a row is a perfect game.
Chicken[]
Throughout the day at regular intervals, Pekora's chicken dinner will cool down. The user must press the A button to heat the chicken up in the microwave. If the chicken becomes too cold and freezes, Pekora will become upset. The chicken can't be reheated if Pekora is sleeping or depressed.
Sadness[]
Severely neglecting Pekora, or allowing the chicken to become frozen for too long, will cause Pekora to become sad, depicted by her with a blanket over her head in bed and four sulking lines on the top right corner of the screen. The A button must be pressed twice to cheer her up. The user cannot feed or play with Pekora until the condition is cared for.
Departure[]
Pekora will stay as long as the user continues to take good care of her. If the user fails to fill the Hungry and Happy meters or fails to keep the chicken warm, Pekora will become depressed, portrayed by her sulking in bed. Pressing the A button multiple times will eventually cheer her up. Repeated instances of Pekora becoming depressed or failure to cheer her up after an extended period of time will result in Pekora reverting to Nousagi and being taken away by a UFO.
Pressing the A and C buttons together will replay the beginning cutscene, restarting the cycle and allowing the user to take care of Pekora again.

Trivia[]
- Initial preorders for the Pekoratchi sets sold out less than 30 minutes after going live on Premium-Bandai. This prompted Bandai to open preorders for a second production run a few days later, which will ship in late January.
- This makes it one of the fastest Tamagotchi pets to sell out, along with the Hatsune Pekoratchi limited edition shell (sold out in less than 30 minutes) and the Supreme x Tamagotchi classic shells (sold out in less than three minutes in the USA).
