Rice (ごはん), also referred to as Rice Bowl, is a Meal introduced on the Japanese version of the Original Tamagotchi.
Appearance[]
Rice is portrayed as a small, black bowl filled with rice. The official artwork for rice in 2004 shows that the bowl is yellow with a white base. Later sprites would show the bowl as white with pink squares.
On Virtual Pets[]
Tamagotchi (1996)[]
Rice is the "Meal" option on the original Tamagotchi generation 1. Feeding the Tamagotchi rice will fill its Hungry heart by 1 and increase its weight by 1. The Tamagotchi will refuse to eat rice if the Hungry meter is full, if it's sick, or if it's making a Discipline call. On the English version, it is replaced with a slice of bread.
Tamagotchi Osutchi and Mesutchi[]
On the Tamagotchi Osutchi and Mesutchi, "Deluxe Rice" serves as the "Meal" option for TMP1 characters.
Yasashii Tamagotch[]
On the Yasashii Tamagotch, rice serves as the food during the Baby, Child, and Teen stages.
Tamagotchi Plus[]
On the Tamagotchi Plus, Rice serves as the "Meal" option for all Child and Teen stage characters. When connecting, rice is used as the food used in the eating contest. On the English models, it is replaced with a roll of bread.
Tamagotchi Mini[]
On the Japanese and 20th Anniversary versions of the Tamagotchi Mini, rice serves as the "Meal" option. It is replaced by a bagel on the 2005 English version, and fish on the Good Luck version.
Tamagotchi Nano[]
On the Tamagotchi Nano, rice serves as the "Meal" option on both versions.
Pac-Man Tamagotchi[]
On the Pac-Man Tamagotchi, rice serves as the "Meal" option.
Color Generation[]
On all Tamagotchi pets from the Color Generation (except the Tamagotchi Pix), rice is the default meal option and is available in the Fridge from the Child stage onward. Once the Tamagotchi reaches the Adult stage, it will react negatively to being fed rice. Despite the negative reaction, their happiness meter will not be reduced.

Trivia[]
- According to Tamagotchi Research Report: Tamagotchi Book, the rice sprite used on the original Tamagotchi is a simplified representation of what the Tamagotchi is actually eating, and the foods are more complex and nutritious than they appear to the user.
- The Pac-Man Tamagotchi marks the first time rice has been used as the default meal on an English-exclusive release.
