Tamagotchi Skill Points (known as GUTS Points in Japan) are special points earned through a Tamagotchi's life and determine the outcome of not only the adult stage, but jobs as well. Skill points are used on the Tamagotchi Connection Version 4, the Tamagotchi Connection Version 4.5, the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus, and the Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus. For any Tamagotchi featuring Skill Points, there are 3 different available skills.

Skill Points, known as GUTS Points (ガッツポイント Gattsu pointo) in Japan, is a feature that was introduced on the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus in Japan and on the Tamagotchi Connection Version 4 internationally. They are also featured on the Ura Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus, the Tamagotchi Connection Version 4.5, the Hanerutchi 2, and the Tamagotchi Music Star.

Function

Skill Points are points earned throughout the Tamagotchi's life through playing games, using items, eating certain foods, and attending school. Care Mistakes may cause a loss in Skill Points. Each version has three possible skills, and which Skill Points the Tamagotchi has will determine which adult evolution it becomes, as well as what jobs are available to it once it graduates from school. On the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus, the Ura Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus, and the Hanerutchi 2, it will also determine the Tamagotchi's rank and salary; increasing the job's necessary Skill Point increases these in turn.

The jobs offered on the Entama, Uratama and Hanerutchi 2 will belong to the category with the most points (with certain jobs requiring a minimum amount of points for a successful interview), and each of the three games raises a sole skill. On the V4 and V4.5, a Tamagotchi will be offered a random array of jobs at one time (while there are no set minimum thresholds, success is more likely the more points the occupation's associated skill has and the closer to the base weight the Tamagotchi is), and games that focus on improving a specific skill are not available until becoming a teenager - the games unlocked at the baby and child stages will improve a random category every time they are played.

Each kind of Skill Point represents one of the three primary groups on the device, and on the Japanese releases, a baby will start out with 10 points in its group's respective category (for example, Mameotchi will start off with 10 Intellect points). Hatenatchi and Bikkuritchi do not start with any Skill Points due to being in special families. On the V4.5, parents will pass down a portion of their final Skill Points to their offspring.

The three Skill Points available on these versions are Intellect (かしこさ Intellect), represented by a pencil; Arts (オシャレ Fashionable), represented by a two sparkles; and Social (やさしさ), represented by a flower. They are mostly associated with the Mame, Meme, and Kuchi Groups respectively.

Version 4.5 and Uratama

Uratama-4.5 skills

The three Skill Points available on these versions are Funny (ひょうきんさ), represented by a hand making "peace" on the Uratama and a smiling face on the V4.5; Gorgeous (ゴージャスさ), represented by one large sparkle; and Spiritual (ねっけつさ Hot-Blooded), represented by a flame on the Uratama and a closed fist on the V4.5. They are mostly associated with the Ura Mame, Ura Meme, and Ura Kuchi Groups respectively.

Hanerutchi 2

Hanerutchi 2 skills

For the Hanerutchi 2, there are Musical, Phys. Ed., and Comedy points.

Tamagotchi Music Star

Music Skill Points is a variation of the Skill Point system featured on the Tamagotchi Music Star. Unlike the Skill Points on previous versions, they are represented by words instead of images. The three skills are Tone, Rhythm, and Original. Three games are available as soon as the baby is born, with each improving one of the three skills.

While the Music Skill Points don't influence evolution, they instead influence whether the Tamagotchi will succeed in beginning their music career after school, and later on their performance ability, which in turn improves their Star Ranking and number of fans. Upon marriage, the user's Tamagotchi will pass down 1/3 of their total points in each category to its offspring.
