The Spy x Family Tamagotchi is an licensed Tamagotchi Nano based on the anime and manga series Spy × Family.
Background[]
Spy x Family is a manga and anime series that began in 2019. The series follows a spy under the alias Loid Forger who puts together a pretend family in order to get close to his target who is reclusive and has a son enrolled in a private school. The family includes Yor Briar who is his wife and Anya who is his daughter. However, all three are hiding secrets from each other, with Loid being a spy, Yor being an assassin, and Anya being a mind reader. Loid must carry out the role of being a perfect father whilst secretly achieving his mission.
Functions[]
The user is tasked with caring for Anya Forger, including feeding and playing games to make her happy. Depending on how she's cared for, she may change into several different outfits inspired by the series, including two special outfits unique to the device. She can also make a variety of facial expressions to show her mood. If the user neglects her, Anya will run away.
Birth and Growth[]
After setting the clock, a cutscene will play of Anya receiving a call and being admitted into Eden Academy. After 24 hours, she will change into a new outfit based on care quality, what games were played, and how many perfect results were gained. Some outfits can further change into a special one if the right conditions are met.
Buttons[]
There are no on-screen icons, and therefore all information is conveyed through the screen and buttons. Anya is cared for by filling her meters; she has Hungry and Happy meters, each consisting of four units, which are both empty when she is born. If either becomes empty, Anya will call for attention to fill them.
If Anya needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what she needs. If Anya looks angry, she's hungry; if Anya sulks, she's unhappy. If her Hungry and Happy meters are not empty but the Happy meter is not full, Anya will do a simple happy animation. If the Happy meter is completely full and the Hungry meter is not empty, Anya will perform a Close Up instead.
Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the options to feed food or to play a mission. The meal option (stew) fills one Hungry unit, and Anya will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The snack (peanuts) fills one Happy unit, and can be fed even when the Happy meter is full. The A button is also used to open the lights on and off menu when Anya has fallen asleep. Anya sleeps at 9 PM and wakes up at 7 AM. She will turn on the lights by herself.
Missions[]
There are three games available, each influencing what outfit Anya will change into. Winning a game will raise the Happy meter by 1, while playing a perfect game will raise the Happy meter by 2.
- Dodgeball: Anya will be playing a game of dodgeball. Pressing the A and B button will make her move up and down respectively to avoid incoming balls. Avoiding 20 balls is a perfect game.
- Run Away from the Bad Guys!: Anya will be riding Bond to get away from bad guys in pursuit of them. The user has 10 seconds to press the A button as much as they can to make Bond run faster. Hitting the A button 15 times or more is a perfect game.
- SPY Word Match: A slot machine will show the letters S, P, and Y and the user must press the B button in time to stop the roll and spell SPY. Spelling SPY correctly 5 times is a perfect game.
Elegant Checks[]
Throughout the day at regular intervals, housemaster Henry Henderson will appear on the screen to check on Anya and make sure she's behaving. The user must press the A button to make Anya respond elegantly to send him away. Henderson will gradually take over the screen the longer the user takes to respond and failing to respond entirely will make Anya upset. Henderson can't be sent away if Anya is sleeping or depressed.
Daily Events[]
Throughout the day, various characters from the series will appear. Pressing any button will trigger the animation to end, with some showing an additional screen before closing.
Departure[]
Anya does not die, and will stay as long as the user continues to take good care of her. If the user fails to fill the Hungry and Happy meters or fails to respond to enough of Henderson's elegant checks, Anya will become depressed, portrayed by her sulking. Pressing the A button multiple times will eventually cheer her up. Repeated instances of Anya becoming depressed or failure to cheer her up after an extended period of time will result in Anya running away and the door to her apartment appearing on screen.
Pressing the A and C buttons together will replay the cutscene of Anya getting into Eden Academy, restarting the cycle.
