Tamagotchi - The Game is a board game published by Cardinal in 1997. There are 2 different ways to play the game. The object of the first game is to be the first player to reach the full-grown Tamagotchi in the center of their growth meter. The object of the second is to be the last player whose Tamagotchi has not returned to it's home planet.
Rules[]
Game 1[]
The objective is to reach the center of the growth meter first. Each player is dealt 6 "Attention" cards, 1 at a time, in rotation, and places the cards face up in front of them. After that, players place their Tamagotchi play pieces on the start space on the board. Their tokens are placed on the un-cracked egg picture on their growth meters. The first player rolls the white die and moves his play piece that number of spaces from start (1 thru 6) on the board. Play continues clockwise, using the white die to move the play piece around the board. When a player lands on a space occupied by another player, the player already on that space gets to pick any card ("Food", "Discipline" or "Medicine") from the player who just landed, but only after the arriving player picks up his attention cards, and before he uses any cards.
Game 2[]
The objective of Game 2 is to be the last player remaining in the game. The same game board and play pieces as in Game 1 are used. Each player is given one "Medicine", one "Food" and one "Discipline" Attention cards. Just like in Game 1, the players should place their tokens on their growth meters and their play pieces on the start space on the board. The first player rolls the white die and moves his play piece. Play continues clockwise. All the rules for Game 1 apply, except for one: when using the Attention cards as indicated on the Tamagotchi egg spaces, the player must provide and discard the full amount of cards indicated, but may only move his growth meter token forward 1 space. If a player's token returns to the uncracked egg image on the growth meter, it returns to it's home planet and that player loses.
Spaces on the Game Board[]
- "Collect Attention Cards" space - when a player lands on this space he will pick up the number of attention cards (1-4) indicated. The player holds the cards until he lands on an "egg" space.
- "Tamagotchi" spaces - when a player lands on this space, he must provide "Attention" cards to take care of his pet on the growth meter. The type and number of Attention cards that should be provided are indicated on the space. If the player doesn't have enough attention cards, he must go back (example: a player lands on a space that requires 3 units of food, but the player only has 1 unit of food. Since the player cannot fully take care of the Tamagotchi, he must move the token back 2 spaces on his growth meter). When a player has the correct amount of Attention cards (1-4), he moves the growth meter token forward that amount of spaces. Used Attention cards must be placed at the bottom of the deck.
- Tamagotchi "Play" space - when a player lands on the "Play" space, he uses both dice (white & color), and throws them 5 times. The white die represents the player and the color die represents the Tamagotchi. Both dice are rolled together. If the white (player) die is higher than the color (Tamagotchi) die, the player moves his growth meter token forward 1 space. If the color die is higher, the token must move back. If both dice are the same - nothing happens.
- Tamagotchi "Sleep" space - when a player lands here, he gets to take a rest and loses a turn.
- Tamagotchi "Droppings" space - when a player lands on a "Droppings" space, he must try to clean up the mess by rolling the white die once. An odd number cleans up the mess, and the player may move his token forward 1 space on the growth meter. If an even number is thrown, the token must be moved back 1 space.
Digital Pet Involvement[]
When all the players have an original Tamagotchi, and none of the toys are asleep, they can be used with this game. All rules for both games (either 1 or 2) are the same except of the following:
- If a player's electronic pet 'Beeps' during his turn - he must take care of it immediately. If the pet 'Beeps' during another player's turn, he must tend to it only when their next turn comes.
- The player whose pet 'Beeped', may move their growth meter token the amount of Happy hearts, Hunger hearts, or Discipline levels gained by caring for their electronic pet.
- All the other players check the health meter of their individual Tamagotchi toys at the same time as the player currently tending to his beeping pet.
- All other players must move their growth meter tokens back the amount of open hearts shown for Hunger and Happiness. Example: If a pet has 1 open heart for "Hungry", and 2 open hearts for "Happy" - that player must move their token back three spaces.
- When any player lands on the "Play" space, he uses the Tamagotchi toy to play, by moving to its "Play" mode. That player moves the token on his growth meter the difference of the Tamagotchi score. Example: If the player guessed right three times, and the Tamagotchi guessed 'opposite' twice that player moves his token forward 1 space. If the Tamagotchi score is reversed (player - 2, Tamagotchi - 3) the token moves back 1 space.
- If a player's Tamagotchi falls asleep during the game, that player is out.
