The design on the on the shell also varies depending on the version, with version one having Tamagotchi comrade characters and version two having the P2 characters. The text at the top says "Mame Game" or "Mame Game 2" to identify the version. There is also text near the buttons to explain their function.
Shells released for the device included solid and transparent colors for both versions.
Gameplay[]
Mame Game Version One[]
The first version of the Mame Game is a tetris styled game using Tamagotchi sprites. A row of two Tamagotchis will fall from the top which can be moved and rotated. The Tamagotchis will fall until they reach another Tamagotchi or the bottom of the screen. When three Tamagotchis are connected together, they will be cleared and points are earned. The Tamagotchis will start falling faster as more points are earned. After a certain number of points are earned, a short animation will play before the game continues.
Mame Game Version Two[]
The second version of the Mame Game features three games to play:
- Rice Ball Relay: Sekitoritchi is at the top of the screen throwing down riceballs and poop. The user controls Takotchi by moving them left and right to catch the riceballs while avoiding poop. When a riceball is caught, Takotchi will evolve into another adult Tamagotchi and move closer to Sekitoritchi, eventually reaching the end as Mimitchi. If a poop is caught, the user's Tamagotchi will get sick and devolve into the previous adult character. Sekitoritchi will throw syringes while the Tamagotchi is sick that will cure them if caught, but catching another poop in this state will end the game.
- Operation Injection: Tamagotchi will appear on screen with a poop, riceball, or nothing next to them. The player must select the Tamagotchi with a poop to inject them and get points, but will lose a life if they aren't caught in time - represented by up to four poop icons to the side of Sekitoritchi, with the game ending if all four light up. Tamagotchi with a riceball next to them can be injected for less points, but restoring one life, and injecting a Tamagotchi without anything next to them will take away one life. With every consecutive round, the Tamagotchi will start appearing and disappearing quicker.
- Fortune-Telling: By entering the date of their birth, the user can get their fortune told. The results are displayed via Tamagotchi sprites, with riceballs meaning good luck, poop meaning bad luck, and just the Tamagotchi by itself meaning neutral luck.
