The Tamagotchi Nano Colorful Detective Conan (名探偵コナン Tamagotchi nano colorful) is a licensed Tamagotchi Nano model based on the Detective Conan franchise. It is the first Tamagotchi Nano model to be released in the new "Tamagotchi Nano Colorful" series, which features a full-color screen and rechargeable battery.
Background[]
Detective Conan is a detective manga and anime series by Gosho Aoyama that began in 1994. The series stars Shinichi Kudo, a highschool detective who works with the police to solve cases. During an investigation he is ambushed by unknown assailants and force-fed a drug meant to kill him. However, the drug ends up deaging him into a six year old child. Adopting the alias "Conan", Shinichi continues to be a detective and aims to find the people who drugged him and apprehend them while keeping his friends and loved ones from learning his former identity.
Gameplay[]
The user is tasked with caring for Conan, including feeding and playing games to keep him happy and healthy. Depending on his quality of care and what games he plays, Conan can evolve into different characters seen in the series, including new characters introduced in the movie Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram. Throughout the day, short animations featuring characters from the series will occur.
Birth and Growth[]
After setting the clock, a series of images will play, showing Shinichi and Ran's date at an amusement park, Shinichi investigating a murder, and then Shinichi turning into Conan. After this, the user must care for Conan for 24 hours. Depending on the quality of care, how many snacks were fed, and how many perfect games were played, Conan will evolve into a different character from the series. The character will then continually evolve every 24 hours until the final evolution of Phantom Thief Kid is reached.
Buttons[]
Pressing the A button will pull up the menu which has four icons. The A button moves the cursor and the B button selects an icon. Pressing C will close the menu and return to the character screen. Pressing the B button on the character screen will bring up the clock screen where the time and battery level can be viewed. If the B button is held down for 10 seconds, the nano will turn off. Pressing the B button again for 5 seconds will turn the nano back on, giving an option to load the last save data or restart.
- Meal: The meal option will fill one hunger unit and the character will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The snack option fills one happiness unit and can be used, even when the happiness meter is maxed out. The food and snack available changes depending on the character currently being raised.
- Minigames: There are three minigames available to play. The A button will cycle through the games while the B button will confirm the selection.
- Sound: The sound level can be adjusted by pressing A to turn the sound up and by pressing B to confirm it. The sound level can be adjusted by three levels.
- Brightness: The screen brightness can be adjusted similar to the sound level. There are four levels of brightness to choose from.
If the characters needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what they need. If they look angry, they're hungry; if they sulk, they're unhappy. If their Hungry and Happy meters are not empty but the Happy meter is not full, they will do a simple happy animation. If the Happy meter is completely full and the Hungry meter is not empty, they will perform a Close Up instead. If either of the meters are empty, the character will call for attention to fill them.
All characters sleep from 9 PM to 7 AM. When the character is asleep, only the sound and brightness option from the menu can be accessed.
Minigames[]
There are three games available. Winning a game will raise the Happy meter by 1, while playing a perfect game will raise the Happy meter by 2.
- Soccer Ball Attack: Conan will be kicking a soccer ball into a goal. When the ball is centered in front of the goal, press the A or B button to kick the ball in. Five successful goals is a perfect game.
- Avoid Them with a Skateboard!: Conan is riding his turbo engine skateboard down a busy road. Press the A and B button to move left and right to avoid the cars in the way. Avoiding all cars to the end is a perfect game.
- Thief Kid's Hang Glider!: The Phantom Thief Kid will be riding their hang glider through the sky. Press A button as much as possible within 10 seconds to keep the flight up. Pressing the A button more than 30 times is a perfect game.
Enemy[]
Throughout the day, in 3 hour intervals, an enemy will appear to harass the character. The enemy can be a shaded criminal, Inspector Nakamori, or a police car depending on the current character being raised. Pressing the A button will shoo the enemy away. If the enemy is allowed to stay for 12 hours, the character will become upset and sulk. The enemy can't be shooed away if the character is sulking or sleeping.
Sulking[]
Severely neglecting the character or allowing the enemy to stay on the screen for too long will cause the character to sulk, depicted by them facing away from the screen and sulking lines appearing near their head. The A button must be pressed twice to cheer them up. The character cannot be fed or played with until the condition is cared for.
Daily Events[]
Every day at 4 PM, an image from the anime series will appear on the screen for 3 minutes. The scene that appears is dependent on the character being raised. Press the A or B button will end the event.
Departure[]
The character will continually evolve into another character every 24 hours until the final evolution of Phantom Thief Kid is reached. The user will then continue care of them for 48 hours until they leave on their own, signified by a cutscene. Depending on which character was raised before obtaining Phantom Thief Kid, the cutscene will change. If the user allows any character to sulk for 3 times or sulk for 12 hours, they will leave and a bad end will occur. This is signified by the appearance of a door.
In both cases, pressing the A and C buttons together will replay the beginning cutscene, restarting the cycle and allowing the user to take care of Conan again.
