Tamagotchi Remix (stylized "TAMAGOTCHI REMIX") is a multimedia collaboration project by Bandai to celebrate the Tamagotchi brand's 25th anniversary. The project involves experimenting with Tamagotchi's iconography across multiple brands and media formats.
As of May 13, 2024, the main link for the Tamagotchi Remix project has been removed from the official Tamagotchi page, suggesting it has been concluded.
Remixes[]
Remix Vol. 1[]
Remix Vol. 1 is "RAP'N'TECHNOTCHI", a song with an accompanying music video celebrating Tamagotchi's history from 1996 to 2022. The music video was teased on November 20, 2022, and released the next day. The song is a collaboration between Bose (real name Makoto Kōshima, from the hip-hop group Scha Dara Parr) and Mei Takahashi and Riko Iwai of new wave techno band "LAUSBUB", representing the Heisei to Reiwa eras respectively.
An instrument called the "Tamagotchi Sampler" was constructed for the musicians to work with. It consisted of a small stand with facades that resemble the front of Tamagotchi Smart devices, and when the center button is pressed, they play Tamagotchi sound effects, both from the classic Tamagotchi and from the modern era. For the music video, a "Tamagotchi Wall" was constructed and stood behind the musicians in the video. Like the Sampler, it consists of facades of the front of Tamagotchi Smart devices.
Remix Vol. 2[]
Remix Vol. 2 was a collaboration with "SCHOOL OF LOCK!", an educational radio program that plays on Tokyo FM. Special Tamagotchi-related episodes were broadcast from November 21, 2022 through November 24, each starting at 10:55 PM.
Remix Vol. 3[]
Remix Vol. 3 is a collaboration with fashion company MAX&Co. The company launched a line of Tamagotchi-themed clothing, called "Tamagotchi in Paris", and consists of clothing feature Tamagotchi eggs and Tamatchi.
Remix Vol. 4[]
Remix Vol. 4 consists of classic Tamagotchi generation 1 shells designed and sold by Supreme, an American clothing and skateboarding lifestyle brand established in New York City in April 1994. The shells were revealed as part of their Spring/Summer 2023 collection. They feature exclusive packaging matching the shell designs, the Supreme logo at the top of the shell instead of the Tamagotchi logo, and the Supreme logo on the screen background. The shells were made available on March 16, 2023, and sold for $48 USD each. All three shells sold out within the first three minutes of being available.
Additionally, tee shirts featuring the collaboration logo were dropped onto the site on April 20. The shirts feature the logo on the front disproportionately small compared to the shirt, and the bottom back of the shirt has the Supreme and Bandai copyright information in the Tamagotchi font. The logo comes in three colors depending on the shirt and matching the three shell designs. The tee came in six colors (black, eggplant, pale blue, white, tomato, and light pine), came in five sizes (small, medium, large, extra large, 2XL), and sold for $44 USD each.
Remix Vol. 5[]
Remix Vol. 5 is "GO GO TAMAGOTCHI!!! 2023". The song is a remix of GO-GO! Tamagotchi!, the primary theme song of the Tamagotchi! anime series. The music was produced in collaboration with CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE, Yukichi Kasaku/men, YonYon, Dos Monos, and Shinichi Osawa. As with Remix Vol. 1, it was teased on May 18, 2023, and then released the next day.
The music video consists of anime-style mascot costumes of Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, and Lovelitchi dancing at a DJ booth, along with images of the musicians playing with various classic Tamagotchi devices.
Remix Vol. 6[]
Remix Vol. 6 consists of the "Tamagotchi FRGMT Edition", a special classic Tamagotchi generation 1 shell designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara, an influential streetwear designer. It was produced in collaboration with his "fragment design" fashion line and sold exclusively on Premium Bandai via a lottery system. Lottery orders were accepted from June 1st through June 8th, 2023, and winners were able to purchase the Tamagotchi on June 12th. The device shipped in late September 2023. Uniquely, both the shell and packaging have a matte finish, and the screen has a "FRGMT" background print.
Hiroshi first teased the collaboration by revealing photos of the device and packaging on his Instagram on May 19th, 2023[1]. According to an interview with Hypebeast, Hiroshi and Bandai entered discussions to collaborate in October 2022, and it was completed in either February or March 2023. As Tamagotchi designs were primary aimed at children, he wanted to create a design that was appealing to adults, and he was partially influenced by the Supreme x Tamagotchi collaboration. Bandai offered him the idea of the shell having a matte finish[2].
Remix Vol. 7[]
Remix Vol. 7 consists of a collaboration with Japanese fashion brand A Bathing Ape (ABAPE or BAPE for short). The collaboration was announced October 10, 2023, to be released in both the USA and Japan.
The collaboration consists of three special classic Tamagotchi generation 1 shell designs, each bundled with a matching lanyard in unique packaging. The three shells also feature a unique background print showing the BAPE logo. Along with the shells were a series of Tee shirts, with the Camo Tee shirt featuring a lenticular sheet to animate the Mametchi sprite on the shirt.
The products will be available to preorder on Premium Bandai USA and Japan starting October 15th, 2023, and ship the following November. Additionally, they will be available to purchase at BAPE stores, physical and online.
