Tama Search Function

Tama Search allows the Tamagotchi to go on a walk to meet NPCs. From the child stage onward, the option can be accessed by pressing the C button in the living room. The Tamagotchi will go out into town and keep walking until the Uni detects a Wi-Fi signal. All signals detected in the area will be turned into an alphanumeric ID and the user can choose one in order to encounter a character.

After the Tamagotchi meets a character, they will give them a sticker for their collection. Repeated encounters with the same character will have the meeting occur in different locations, change the character's expression and background on their sticker, and increase their friendship level. Once the friendship level is maxed out, the character will invite the Tamagotchi to their room to play. It has been announced that it will be possible to meet up to 100 characters in the future, with updates slated to gradually add them in.

There are two kinds of characters that can met: Normal characters can be met with any Wi-Fi signal, with a few only appearing during a specific season. Special characters are exclusive to events that occur in the real world. Encounters with special characters have the Tamagotchi automatically meet them without choosing a Wi-Fi signal, instantly max out the friendship level, and receive the highest level sticker.

Normal Characters

When the feature was first added in Version 2.0.0, a total of 69 normal characters can be met in Tama Search. This went up to a total of 80 in Version 2.1.0, having added 11 additional characters. The specific character met is determined by the final two bytes of the Wi-Fi hotspot MAC Address.

Common characters can be met at any time of the year. Seasonal characters can only be met during a specific season (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter), determined by the Uni's current date.

Special Characters

Special characters can be encountered when using Tama Search at in-person promotional events. These encounters are automatically triggered when Tama Search detects a Wi-Fi Hotspot with a Network Name (SSID) associated with the special character. As such, these characters can also be encountered at any time by setting up a Wi-Fi Hotspot with the SSID found at the promotional event.

On Apple's iOS, temporarily set the name of the device to one of the SSIDs below before activating the personal Hotspot. The SSID of the Hotspot is automatically pulled from the devices name. After the Tama Search encounter, the device can be renamed to what it was before.
