It is the successor to the Tamagotchi iD, and includes new features and up to 32 new characters, as well as several returning characters.
As with the iD, it is based on the concurrently-airing Tamagotchi! Anime. The L stands for many words - Life, Link, Live, Love, Leader and Limited.
This Tamagotchi has also been translated to English by Bandai Asia and sold in China, Australia, and the United Kingdom in 2012. The English version packaging of the Tamagotchi iD L are white, and are also available in all 6 colors.
Design[]
The iD L resembles the iD with the same size, shape, and buttons.
Key differences are the faceplate, which now has sparkle shapes to the left and right of the screen, and a silver rim surrounding the faceplate, with the words "Tamagotchi iD L" embossed on it.
Features[]
Happy Symbols[]
- Main article: TamaTomo
The tamatomo system has been renamed into happy symbols, but functionally works the same. Each character has four happy symbols to unlock and when all four are earned, a stamp of them is recorded in the notebook.
Three symbols can be earned by playing with an item, eating a certain food, or wearing an outfit/accessory. The fourth is earned by raising the adult character for 48 hours.
New locations will be unlocked every four stamps collected with the final one being unlocked at 32 stamps. New icon backgrounds are also unlocked with stamps.
Locations[]
There are eight new locations that can be unlocked by collecting stamps:
- Henshin Jo (4 stamps): When certain characters visit here, if they have the required clothes or accessories in their Closet, a question will appear asking if they want to change. If yes is selected, the character will transform into a costume and will continue wearing it outside the location. To take the costume off, the Tamagotchi must return to the location again.
- Patchi Forest (8 stamps): When the character visits here, a question will appear, asking if the character wants to enter the hotsprings. The options are yes and no.
- Melody Land (12 stamps): When the character visits here, they can talk to Melodytchi's parents. On rare occassions users may meet Joou Sama, and she will give their Tamagotchi character a Melody Charm.
- Concert (16 stamps): Go to the concert hall and watch Lovelin and Melodytchi perform live.
- Waru Cafe (20 stamps): Meet Akaspatchi & Pipospatchi, Spaceytchi's little brothers, and talk about taking over Tamagotchi Planet. Users must be careful that the Tamagotchi School teachers don't see them.
- Fortune Teller (24 stamps): Meet Uranaitchi and she will tell users their fortune.

- Gotchi King's Castle (32 stamps): The Tamagotchi can meet the Gotchi King and get commemorative photgraphs featuring the adult characters.
Tama Pets[]
It is now possible to keep a Tama Pet. Different pets can be found at Donut Park at certain times of the day and must be encountered three times to have the option to adopt them. The adopted pet will then stay in the yard and the Tamagotchi can interact with them whenever they go outside. They will also follow the Tamagotchi when they walk to a location, though they will not actually appear with them when they arrive. Tama Pets will stay with the Tamagotchi until the next generation and will never leave until then.
Gardening[]
Various types of seeds can be bought from the tama department store or downloaded from the website. They can be planted in the backyard and it takes a full day for the seed to grow. Seeds can produce one out of three possible items which can be a fruit, vegetable, or toy.
Donut Park Events[]
There are new events that can occur at the park depending on the time, with one of them depending on the day of the month
