The Tamagotchi m!x reinstates the infrared port for connectivity, which was last used on the Tamagotchi P's and then removed for the Tamagotchi 4U series in favor of NFC. The Tamagotchi m!x has a printed faceplate that covers most of the front of the body, but is cut off from the buttons with an eggshell crack.
Currently, there are 6 versions of the Tamagotchi M!X available. The first two versions to be released were the Melody and Spacy M!X, released on July 16th 2016. These versions featured Melody Land and Spacy Land as destinations on each respective version. The Melody and Spacy M!X comes in three colors: purple, blue, and pink. The melody M!X features a spotty pattern on its front face plate, while the Space sports a zigzag pattern.

  +
Breaking with the traditional design of having the 10-icon layout, the Tamagotchi m!x instead has the animations take on the screen's full resolution. The 10 icons appear as a menu accessed through pressing the A button, with each icon's function appearing in a text box above. In this menu, the Attention icon doesn't appear among the main icons, instead appearing at the top-right corner of the screen if the Tamagotchi calls.
The third M!X version to be released is the Anniversary M!X, which was released on November 23rd, 2016 to celebrate the anniversary of the Tamagotchi franchise. This version features new destinations and characters from older Tamagotchi releases, such as KuroMametchi and Ura Togetchi. It came in two colors, white and pink, both featuring a starry face plate pattern.

  +
Versions
The fourth version to be released is the Sanrio M!X, released on April 15th, 2017, as a collaboration Tamagotchi between Sanrio and Bandai. On this version many Sanrio themed locations are available and it is possible to marry Sanrio Characters such as Hello Kitty and Gudetama. Only one design is available, which is Yellow with a pink face plate featuring various Sanrio and Tamagotchi Characters.

A total of six different versions of the Tamagotchi m!x were released between 2016 and 2018. Each version has their own distinct design, items, locations, and characters that can be interacted with and married. All versions can connect and marry with each other. The six versions are as follows:

  +
* Melody: One of the two launch versions. It features exclusively access to Melody Land and its characters.
The fifth version to be released is the Dream M!X, released on July 15th, 2017. This version features Dream Town as a location, and features Kiraritchi, Yumemitchi, and Spacytchi as new characters. This version came in two colors, blue and pink, which have a face plate with a bow that sticks out slightly. A third purple color was released in 2018 and features Pianitchi as a new character.

  +
* Spacy: One of the two launch versions. It features exclusive access too Spacy Land and its characters.
  +
* 20th Anniversary: A commemorative version released celebrating Tamagotchi's anniversary. It features access to Professor Banzo's Laboratory, Makkakka Town, Uratama Town, and the Gotchi King's Castle.
  +
* Dream: This version is distinguished from other versions by its heart-shaped crystal above the screen. It features exclusive access to Dream Town, Yumemitchi, and Kiraritchi. An updated rerelease in 2018 also includes Pianitchi.
  +
* Gift: A special version released in a gift set, this features all of the same locations as the 20th Anniversary version, but also includes exclusive access to Present Island and its characters.
  +
* Sanrio: A special licensed variant, this version includes exclusive access to Mariland, Twin Stars Land, and Puroland, and the ability to interact with and marry Sanrio characters.

Functions
The sixth version to be released is the Anniversary Gift M!X, released in late November 2017. This version appears to have a Christmas holiday theme, featuring content such as new characters, items, and locations. The only appearance currently confirmed is white with a faceplate much like the 20th Anniversary version, now with a ribbon design.

The toy introduced a brand new feature called "m!x". With this feature, the physical traits that a Tamagotchi will have when it is an adult are determined by what traits its parents had. The offspring of two Tamagotchis will have traits from both parents, for example, a Tamagotchi may have its mother's eyes and its father's body. This feature allows for hundreds of different possible outcomes from mating Tamagotchis.

The restaurant contains a limit of food options, but unlocking new locations gains access to their restaurants and foods as well.
The m!x takes place primarily in a town without a clear name; it is only referred to as "Jibun no Town" (じぶんのタウン My Town). All locations within the m!x include an open space and a shop. The first travel icon lets the user visit the Tamagotchi's town and visit the TamaMall or Park. At the TamaMall, the user can have the house remodeled, buy items, buy fashion accessories, or buy a wedding ring, which is necessary to propose to characters met in other locations. The Game Corner is also accessed here.
  +
  +
At the park, there are two options: one to visit the square, and the other to visit the Playroom. At the square, various events happen throughout the day. At the Playroom, the user has the option of leaving the Tamagotchi there for the day, essentially functioning as a Pause feature. A Tamagotchi can't be dropped off if the Hungry or Happy meter is at zero. The user can reclaim their Tamagotchi at any time throughout the day. However, if the Tamagotchi is picked up late in the evening, their Happy meter may drop. If the user fails to pick it up by night, the Tamagotchi will return home on its own, its Happy meter will drop a significant amount, and it will begin to sulk.

Tamagotchi 4U+ Tamagotchi m!x Pocket Usatama
This article is about a Japanese Tamagotchi release.

Tamagotchi m!x (たまごっちみくす Tamagotchi Mikusu) (pronounced "Tamagotchi mix") is a range of Tamagotchi devices initially released in Japan on July 16, 2016.

Design

The Tamagotchi m!x reinstates the infrared port for connectivity, which was last used on the Tamagotchi P's and then removed for the Tamagotchi 4U series in favor of NFC. The Tamagotchi m!x has a printed faceplate that covers most of the front of the body, but is cut off from the buttons with an eggshell crack.

Versions

A total of six different versions of the Tamagotchi m!x were released between 2016 and 2018. Each version has their own distinct design, items, locations, and characters that can be interacted with and married. All versions can connect and marry with each other. The six versions are as follows:

 • Melody: One of the two launch versions. It features exclusively access to Melody Land and its characters.
 • Spacy: One of the two launch versions. It features exclusive access too Spacy Land and its characters.
 • 20th Anniversary: A commemorative version released celebrating Tamagotchi's anniversary. It features access to Professor Banzo's Laboratory, Makkakka Town, Uratama Town, and the Gotchi King's Castle.
 • Dream: This version is distinguished from other versions by its heart-shaped crystal above the screen. It features exclusive access to Dream Town, Yumemitchi, and Kiraritchi. An updated rerelease in 2018 also includes Pianitchi.
 • Gift: A special version released in a gift set, this features all of the same locations as the 20th Anniversary version, but also includes exclusive access to Present Island and its characters.
 • Sanrio: A special licensed variant, this version includes exclusive access to Mariland, Twin Stars Land, and Puroland, and the ability to interact with and marry Sanrio characters.

Functions

M!x

Mamehime family

Mametchi and Himespetchi with a child featuring their traits.

Main article: Tamagotchi m!x/M!xable Characters

The toy introduced a brand new feature called "m!x". While raising the Tamagotchi is the same as other releases during the first generation, from the second generation onward, the new child will take on the physical characteristics of its parents. The traits start simply with the baby stage's body colors, but they become more distinct as it evolves. Some traits may disappear after several generations and then suddenly resurface later. By connecting and marrying two different versions, physical traits inherited from a character exclusive to one version can be carried over to another. This allows for infinite outcomes of offspring.

Food and Color Change

The Food menu list is separated by two options: Fridge and Restaurant. The Fridge contains the default foods, as well as any food the user has bought. Instead of breaking up Meals and Snacks into their own menu, an icon on the top right indicates what kind of a food it is (a rice bowl for meals, and a piece of candy for snacks). The restaurant contains a limit of food options, but unlocking new locations gains access to their restaurants and foods as well.

Certain foods will also change the Tamagotchi's body color if eaten three times. These colors include yellow, red, blue, white, pink purple, and grey.

Fortune Telling

When connecting two adults, an option to use Fortune Telling will be unlocked. When used, Gypsytchi will predict what the two characters' offspring will look like in its adult form should they marry, or check to see if the two adults have good chemistry.

Family Icon

The fifth icon on the menu is the Family icon. This allows the user to check the Tamagotchi's lineage and see a family photo. From the second generation onward, this icon can also be used to visit the Tamagotchi's parents. The Tamagotchi m!x has a limit to how much of the family history can be saved, but the entire lineage can be saved on the Tamagotchi m!x website.

Travel

There are two icons dedicated to travel. One is for the main town's locations, and the other is for the Tamafriends' locations, which are gradually unlocked through play.

Main Town

The m!x takes place primarily in a town without a clear name; it is only referred to as "Jibun no Town" (じぶんのタウン My Town).

TamaFriends Towns

TamaFriends Towns are special locations further from home, and locations must be unlocked. Each location includes a square, a shop, an event spot, and the option to marry. At the square, the Tamagotchi can meet other characters that live there and, if the user has the correct items, the Tamagotchi can become friends with them and later propose to them. The shop allows the user to buy special items exclusive to that location. The event spot lets the Tamagotchi see an animation pertaining to that town. The locations are as follows:

 • Tamagotchi Town: Unlocked by default and available on all versions.
 • Patchi Forest (Melody, Spacy, Dream versions): Once the Tamagotchi becomes an adult, visit the backyard.
 • Flower Hills (all versions except Gift): Remodel the house with the Flower wallpaper.
 • Rainbow Hills (all versions except Sanrio): Plant a Flower Seed in clear weather between 7 AM and 3 PM.
 • Mermaid Palace (all versions except 20th Anniversary and Gift): Connect with three other Tamagotchi m!x units or Stations, and then visit the backyard.
 • Gozaru Village: Remodel the house with the Gozaru wallpaper, then use the Conch Horn obtained from Mermaid Palace.
 • Berry Town (all versions except 20th Anniversary and Gift): Eat the Berry Sundae at the restaurant 10 or more times.

Games

Rainbow Painter

The player will presented a rainbow and three paint buckets. When one of the rainbow's colors disappears, the user must select the right color or color combination to repaint the missing color. Pressing A scrolls the paintbrush over the buckets, and B selects a color. The paint bucket must be selected twice for primary colors (red, blue, and yellow), while secondary colors (orange, purple, and green) require selecting the two colors to mix together. If the user selects the wrong color, the rainbow will disappear, ending the game. The user must paint the rainbow correctly ten times for a perfect game.

Star Catch

Stars and UFOs will move slowly from the top of the screen to the bottom, and when the word "CATCH!" appears, the user must press either A (left) or B (right) to catch the object that begins to fall. The button must be pressed once for stars and twice for UFOs. If the button isn't pressed in time, or the wrong button is pressed, the game is over. The player must catch 10 times for a perfect game.

Accessories

 • Straps - Straps can be attached to a Tamagotchi m!x toy and be used to carry it around. Two kinds of straps were released on July 16, 2016: the ribbon accessory strap, and the neck strap. The ribbon accessory strap costs 1,296 yen and comes in two versions: Colorful Egg, and Girly Pink. The neck strap costs 972 yen and comes in two versions: Rainbow Sky, and Cute Pom-Poms.

Tamagotchi m!x Station

A standalone device called Tamagotchi m!x Station was released alongside the m!x series. Through connecting with the Station as an adult, the Tamagotchi will marry the special Tamagotchi offered, and their offspring will inherit their unique genetic traits. The following characters were exclusive to the Station:

Trivia

 • Rather than having twelve unique teen stage characters, six male and six female, the six teen stage characters have male and female variations; males have blue bodies while females have pink. This is the only growth stage where this happens, as well as the first Tamagotchi release to feature such.
