An example of the Tamagotchimoji alphabet in a Tamagotchi guidebook.

Tamagotchimoji (たまごっちもじ Tamagotchimoji, lit. "Tamagotchi-letters") is a writing system used on the Tamagotchi Planet as an alternate means of representing the kana of the Japanese alphabet.

The language saw most of its usage in 1998, primarily in Hoshi de Hakken!! Tamagotchi and on the Yasashii Tamagotchi's shell, and appears to have been abandoned by the time the franchise's modern era began in 2004 in lieu of regular English.

The alphabet does not differentiate between hiragana and katakana, nor is the size altered for the smaller kana used to alter the pronunciation of other kana. For example, tamagotchi would be written the same way as tamagotsuchi.

Appearances[]

Hoshi de Hakken!! Tamagotchi[]

Tamagotchimoji is present on the exteriors of several buildings in the overworld such as the Carnival.

Yasashii Tamagotchi[]

The Yasashii Tamagotchi's name is written in Tamagotchimoji just above the screen on all three shell designs.

Appearance of Tamagotchimoji in official social media video

  • While the language is no longer used in Tamagotchi media, Bandai reused Tamagotchimoji soon after its creation for the Digimon franchise as Japanese DigiCode and restyled the letters to look more angular, and continues to be in use as of the present day as one of the main alphabets of the Digital World and inscriptions on many Digimon.
  • Tamagotchimoji was featured for the first time in modern media on April 10, 2023 as part of the official Tamagotchi social media campaign.
