The Tourabutchi (とうらぶっち) is a licensed Tamagotchi Nano model based on the video game series Touken Ranbu.
Background[]
Touken Ranbu is a free to play collectable card online browser game developed by Nitroplus and DMM Games. The player takes the role of a sage who travels to the past to fight evil forces by summoning legendary swords and animating them as men. The goal of the game is to fight enemies and use resources won to collect and forge more legendary swords. On the Tourabutchi, the user takes care of Konnosuke, a companion kudagitsune, until it's time to summon a sword to raise and train to fight enemies.
Features[]
Birth and Growth[]
After setting the clock, a blacksmith will appear on screen and the user can play two games. After 3 hours have passed, Konnosuke the companion kudagitsune will appear and the user will take care of them for 24 hours. Konnosuke will then summon a sword based on how the games in the blacksmith stage were played and the quality of care given to Konnosuke.
Buttons[]
There are no on-screen icons, and therefore all information is conveyed through the screen and buttons. The character is cared for by filling its meters; it has Hungry and Happy meters, each consisting of four units, which are both empty when the character is born. If either becomes empty, they will call for attention to fill them. Note that the blacksmith stage does not have meters to fill and the only option available is to play the two available game.
If the character needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what it needs. If the character looks frustrated, it's hungry; if it sulks, it's unhappy. If its Hungry and Happy meters are not empty but the Happy meter is not full, it will play a simple happy animation. If the Happy meter is completely full and the Hungry meter is not empty, the character will perform a Close Up.
Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the options to feed or to play the games. The meal option fills one Hungry unit, and the character will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The snack fills one Happy unit, and can be fed even when the Happy meter is full. The A button is also used to open the lights on and off menu when the character has fallen asleep.
Games[]
The Tourabutchi has a total of six games. Two are available during the blacksmith stage, one is available during the Konnosuke stage, and three are available when the user is raising a sword. Winning a game will raise the Happy meter by 1, while playing a perfect game will raise the Happy meter by 2.
Blacksmith Games[]
- Resource Gathering: The user can choose one of four items for the blacksmith to use when forging the sword. Once an item is selected with the B button, the user must move the cursor left and right to catch the item as it falls from the top of the screen.
- Sword Smithing:
Konnosuke Game[]
- Play: Left and right arrows will appear next to Konnosuke and the user must press the A and B buttons that correspond with the arrows. The game goes for five rounds. The user must successfully respond at least once to win the game, and five times for a perfect game.
Training Games[]
- Horse Duty: The user will have 8 seconds to press the A button as much as possible to brush a horse. If the button is pressed enough times, the horse will be fully groomed. If the button is pressed an insufficient amount of times, the horse will get angry instead.
- Field Duty: The user will be plowing a field and planting seeds. Left or right arrows will appear and the user must press the A and B buttons that correspond with the arrows.
- Matchmaking: The user must counter a sword while in a sword fight. When an exclamation mark appears, the user must press B to successfully counter the sword attack.
Time Retrograde Army[]
Throughout the day at regular intervals, enemies from the Time Retrograde Army will appear to attack the character. The user must press the A button to make their sword attack the enemy and drive it away. There are four possible enemies that can appear, and the enemies will gradually take over the screen the longer the user takes to respond. If the user fails to respond entirely, the sword will become injured. Enemies can't be banished once the character has fallen asleep or is injured.
Daily Events[]
Throughout the day, various characters and events from the series will appear. Pressing any button will trigger the animation to end, with some showing an additional screen before closing.
Bad Mood[]
If the user allows their character to be injured by the Time Retrograde Army or fails to fill their hungry or happy meters, the character will become upset depicted by it looking sad and lines appear at the top left corner of the screen. Pressing the A button twice will cheer it up. The character cannot be fed, played with or react to the C button until it is cheered up, and can't be treated when the character is asleep.
Training Trips[]
After two days of caring for a sword character they will change their outfits and the user will have the option to send them out for training. If the user agrees to send their character out, they will leave to go training and a letter box will appear on the screen. Letters will be delivered at regular intervals and the user must collect three letters for their character to return. Once training is complete, the character will achieve Kiwami rank.
If the user chooses not to send the character out for training, they can continue regularly caring for them. There will be two more chances to send them out to train for the next two days.
Departure[]
After five days of caring for a sword character, the user will be given the option to continue caring for their them or change them. Choosing the first option allows the user to keep their character for the next three days until the options are brought up again. Choosing the second option will let character depart and a shoji door and flower petals will appear on the screen. If the user severely neglects their character and does not cheer them up when they're sulking, the character will leave on their own and the shoji door will appear without flower petals.
In both instances, pressing the A and C button together will restart the cycle at the blacksmith stage.
