Zatchi (ザっち), known in Japan as Beda-Chan (ベーダーちゃん Beda-Chan) is a special adult character that debuted on the second generation of the original Tamagotchi.
Name Origin[]
Beda (from his Japanese name) means "vader", coming from how the word "invader" is often used in science fiction to describe aliens from other planets. "Chan" is a diminutive suffix for someone the speaker finds endearing. His English name may come from the word "zap", the onomatopoeia of a laser gun firing.
Appearance[]
Zatchi resembles a green alien, with a large head, pink eyes, and fail arms and legs. In his US artwork, his entire body is as thin as his arms, and his head is pink while his eyes are green. On the back cover of the Tamagotchi Research Report, he is bright blue with yellow eyes, and has blue claws.
In the Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. app, he uses his American colors. He also can be yellow with green eyes and a pink outline, or white with red eyes and a green outline. His Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. Tap and Hatch artwork depicts him with the same body as the original Japanese artwork, but with his US colors.
Artwork for the classic Tamagotchi after the international rebranding in 2022 portrays Zatchi with its Japanese palette, a rounded head and bigger ears that are positioned closer to its cheeks akin to how they are depicted in its sprites.
Personality[]
Zatchi is a big fan of science fiction and has a hobby of collecting toys. On the CD-ROM, it is portrayed as being alien even by Tamagotchi standards and very secretive in nature, often alluding to being on a secret mission it can't disclose much about.

On Virtual Pets[]
Tamagotchi (Generation 2)[]
Zatchi is a secret character on the international version, replacing Sekitoritchi. The user must first raise a Zuccitchi from a Tongaritchi that had no Discipline it’s whole life. From there, the user must provide good to perfect care, with 0-1 care mistakes and no discipline mistakes. Zuccitchi will evolve into Zatchi around the age of 10-15. The Discipline meter will fill to 100% immediately upon evolving. Zatchi wakes at 9 AM, sleeps at 10 PM, has a base weight of 30, and will never make discipline calls. Like Mimitchi, it has a longer life span than other adults and can live to be 30 years old at least.
On the 2018 English replica, any Zuccitchi raised from any method may evolve into Zatchi by the age of 18 if good care is maintained and no discipline calls are missed.
Deai Hakken!! Arukotch[]
Zatchi made his Japanese vpet debut on the Arukotch as one of the Gotchi Boys. Obtaining him as a friend causes a UFO to appear on-screen every night. If the user manages to win his heart, Zatchi takes Arukotchi on a trip on his UFO.
In Media[]
Tamagotchi Video Adventures[]
Zatchi is part of the group of Tamagotchis sent to find an Earth artifact for the Tamagotchi Museum. He is partnered with Tarakotchi, and the two manage to bring back a copy machine. Previously, the two had visited Mars and taken an exploration rover for the museum.
In Games[]
Tamagotchi CD-Rom[]
Instead of evolving from Zuccitchi due to its position being swapped with Pochitchi's, Zatchi will evolve from type two Pochitchi after about 82 hours. As with the original Tamagotchi, it has a base weight of 30lb, goes to sleep at 10pm and wakes up at 9am. The discipline meter will fill out to 100% if it had not already done so, and Zatchi will not make any discipline calls. While still tied with Bill as the longest-lived character, Zatchi has a maximum lifespan of 21-22 days instead of 24-25 - apart from the first of its natural sicknesses occuring rather early on, its heart loss rates will remain relatively stable up until age 19 and gradually decrease to once every twenty minutes or so, but will suddenly drop to once every two minutes during the final six hours.
Zatchi's meal and snack are pancakes and a peanut respectively, and its unique animation shows it hopping from one foot to the other. Its name is also consistently misspelled as Zachi throughout the game.

Went home |
"Hello Earthling. I'm a special Tamagotchi, but I can't tell you anymore than that. All you need to know is that I have crossed the threshold into the unknown dimension of life after Earth....." |
"Greetings Earthling. I had an interesting visit on your planet. Thank you for sharing your unusual foods and customs with me, except for the one called discipline. I have now embarked on my journey into another dimension." |
"Hi little Earthling. You were kind to care for me. I learned a great deal on your planet and will take this information with me as I cross the threshold into another dimension. Can I take some peanuts with me?" |
"Hello. Congratulations on raising me! As an alien I'm rarely seen by humans. Now I have entered into another world. Do not be frightened for me. Another dimension of life awaits all....." |
"Hi. I'm afraid I can't tell you why I had to go home. It's secret alien business. In fact, it's so secret, I'm not really clear on the details myself. All I know is that it's a mission to explore the unknown dimension of life after Earth." |
Sent home |
"It seems very odd that you have decided to send me back home. Maybe you didn't realize that I am a rare alien on a secret mission. It's OK, now I can continue to explore life after Earth in another dimension." |
"How peculiar - you have sent me home! But us aliens are familiar with the unusual and mysterious. Now I will cross the threshold into the unknown dimension of life after Earth." |
"I thought I was mysterious, but I think you are even more mysterious than I am. You go to so much trouble to raise me, and then you send me home! I salute you! Anyone so strange must be brilliant!" |

Trivia[]
- Despite appearing on the back cover of the Tamagotchi Research Report Book, Zatchi appears nowhere in the book proper, making him the only classic Tamagotchi character to be excluded. However, he appears throughout the second Research Report Book.
- In the CD-ROM game and some early print media, his name was misspelled as "Zachi".
- His original Japanese name makes him one of the few Tamagotchi characters whose name does not end with "tchi".
